Clip a 1/2 inch from the tip of the stem, then place it rite away in a mixture of sprite and water. The sugar will help it to last a few days longer. You cannot "prevent" it but you can prolong it.

Good Luck, ;-)
Reply:Hi there. Cut the bottom of each stem off at an angle and then add sugar to the water, or there is a product called Pro-long you can purchase to add to it. Some florist send you a packet of stuff you can put in the water with your flowers...this will also help keep them fresh. The most important part tho, is to make a clean angle cut on the bottom of each stem...this allows the flower to drink in the water and prolong their life.
Reply:add a glass of lemonade to your water in the vase the sugar will help fowers last longer
Reply:First cut the tail on the end in diagonal and place it in water with aspirin , 2-3 pills. This should be the easy way if you don't want to look for a special flower conservant.

source one of my friends run a flower shop.
