How do I plant outdoor flowers?

I have my first house and I get to plant flowers! I'm so excited! I bought some flowers and I have planted them. I have a feeling I am supposed to be doing more though. I mean I just dug a hole in the ground, put the plant in, tried to break up the "bulb", covered it with dirt, patted the dirt, watered and moved on. Do I need to fertilize? Should I have used special dirt? Any tips or good websites to visit? I have many more plants to plant as our landscaping stinks.

some plant food really helps. miracle gro is really good and has results in about 3 weeks. helps flower and grow.

also the hard part is to remember to water every day and if temps are in the upper 90s or higher water twice a day

here is a website about annuals and their care

Reply:Did you till and dig up the dirt to remove all the grass to make a bed? If you just plant flowers in the grassy ground, that won't work. You won't be able to mow the grass. Search how to make new flower beds on the internet. Or get a good magazine or book on flower gardens. Once you have your bed dug and the dirt chopped, you can add some potting soil and mix it. Then plant what you want and cover the exposed ground with lots of mulch. Water every day for the first 2 weeks and then slack off unless it is very dry.
Reply:Fertilizer would help it but a easy way to do it is to get plant and grown and just roll it out.
