Is it romantic to buy flowers and a card for your girlfriend and place it on top of your bed for her to see?
yes!!! its perfect and she will definatly appriciate it.

Dim the lights (a little) chocolates are always good.

Put your hands over her eyes and walk her into your room and sit her down on the bed right next to them then take your hands off and tell her to look. ^_^

good luck
Reply:That's really sweet. I think anything that you do for her that shows her how much you care and how much she means to you is going to make her feel great. I'd think it was very romantic if my boyfriend had flowers and a card waiting on his bed for me. Here's a suggestion... if she works, show up at her work with the flowers and card... or maybe go there before she starts work and leave it there for her. My boyfriend showed up one time with flowers and a card and I felt amazing.
Reply:awwwww....ya that is romantic!!!
Reply:ohh yesssssssss

it is realllllllllllly romantic

wish someone could do that for me too :(

right some pretty good stuff in the card...you can google it or ask it out in yahoo answers.

lol
Reply:of course! girls love surprises! also get her a big teddy bear...
Reply:That is so sweet. I wish my boyfriend would do that...

I can't really give any advice on anymore romantic stuff, but i think you should go along with what you have in mind.
Reply:aww...that is so sweet
Reply:YES !!! that is romantic :)
Reply:Not only that, Romeo, but lead a trail of Hershey Kisses to the flower and card...
Reply:you could do a line of peadals from your front door to your bed and then the flowers card and maybe a hersheys kiss or other chocolate on your pillows.
Reply:i think that would be sweet. You can also be more romantic by leading a trail of flower pedals to the bed.

hi ppl, i need help! lol where can i find a safe online store or local store that would sell mainly carnation or marigold flowers in bulk or any other kind of flowers. Im talking like an order of over 800 flowers. plzzzzzzz help! lol have a grt day, thank you!

Where can i buy either carnations or marigold flowers in bulk?
Try connecting with a local "Wholesale florist" . . . small shops buy from them. They could order whatever you need.

An independent florist shop should be able to negotiate with you on that also. Since they would be doing minimal handling they would keep the markup low.
Reply:My favorite online store in Gurneys, because they refunded/replaced any plants that did not grow. With ordering that many, I would phone them and try to get a deal.

You possible could contact your local Walmart nursery manager and ask him for the source of his purchases. My son in law used to work for such a place in Irvin, California, and it is where Walmart got their plants. Also check your yellow pages, as ours has places for wholesale rates for plants.

Good luck
Reply:It would be best to talk with the manager of your local nursery or gardening center.

Reply:1.Potentella makes a lovely small bush, and can take a lot of abuse, comes in several colors of flowers from bright yellow to pink. The flowers last and last, unlike most shrubs.

2. Lilac grows to what ever heighth you allow up to 12 feet (aprox). It too is dependable, and takes little care except for some water.

3. Wild flowers thrive with little or no care,

4. Day lilies flower all summer and only need water.

5 if you have acidic soil, (mountain areas usually) any form of evergreen is low maintainance, requiring only water, and if soil is not acidic, an occassional spray of a product thats makes the soil in that area acidic.

6. bachelor buttons thrive and return every year, if you keep the dead heads picked off they will bloom from June till after it frosts.

7. Hen and chicks will grow in any teeny bit of dirt, and take little or no care at all.

8 Autumn Sedum is another that forms a bushy plant, and just thrives on a little water. It returns every spring.

9 Most roses need lots and lots of care, but the wild rose, the regosa rose is just that , wild, it needs nothing except for maybe a pruning of dead branches once a year.

10. flowering vines are a thing of beauty, and the clemantis (many, many varieties, and every color there is, grows up to 20 feet in heighth, and if you plant something rather large (to shade the roots) it will continue to flower for many many years to come.

11. One of the very easiest is the morning glory, it reseeds itself, so will return every year, is lovely to look at, and takes almost no care.

and can even cover unsightly poles or whatever.

12 marigolds are a cant fail flower, and they are a natural enemy to bugs, bugs stay away from them. Planting them with any other flowers or vegetables help protect them. They are prolific, and come in many sizes and shades of yellows and oranges.

13 Ivys of any size, or description is always a joy, and take little or no care.

Most plants need only water and sunshine, and most plant nurseries are more than willing to offer any assistance or suggestions.

Dont be afraid to try anything, you are only out the price of a package of seeds or a few dollars for a lovely plant if for some reason that it fails, and you may find that you have years of enjoyment for a very small price.

Hanging basket of flowers - what kind to buy?

My house faces west. I have a largish tree in the parkway and then on another side of my porch I have a tree closer to the house. I love to hang baskets of flowering plants to the front porch but everything I get dies. I have tried geraniums but they don't get enouch sun. I've tried vincas, they died, I've tried the other things that look like vincas - they died too. I've watered everything according to directions. I also like to have something that is somewhat uniform since its in the front of the house. Plus, only one side of the porch gets a lot of late day sun. What do you think? Do you know anything that grows in the sun and/or the shade that flowers and even grows longish? Help - I'm sick of throwing money away. Thanks!

Hanging basket of flowers - what kind to buy?
Whatever you choose, it is time to give the pot a wrap of peat moss so the dirt inside does not overheat during all the sun. This will also help retain your regular watering. So, it is not so much the plants problem, as long as they are sun loving. Just protect those roots.
Reply:How about some ferns?
Reply:solve the problem and get faux flowers. Sure there are vines and hanging flowers like fuscias but with it getting hotter outdoors you never know just when to water them so they either get too much or not enough water. Why not consult with the nearest plant nursery or talk with a landscaper in your area? You could use just a lot of arborvitae or other green plants then paint parts of your house like around the windows or shutters a color.
Reply:My porch does not really get that much sun during the day - mostly afternoon, and I do hanging baskets every year. I have had each of the following at one time or another in baskets which did very well:

fuschias (fav)

new guniea impatiens (love)

nemesia (white smells like coconut)

petunias

alyssum

double impatiens (look like mini roses)

dahlias

lobelia

trailing licorice plant (will make a veil around pot)

spikes

million bells (type of petunia)

chenille plant (fuzzy pink flower fingers)

I'm sure there are others I've forgotten, but all of these come in tons of colors, and can be mixed. There are now hanging baskets that have the easy watering resevoir on the bottoms so they get just the right amount of water.

What’s a cheap type of fresh cut flowers that you can buy from a grocery store that is not poisonous to cats?

My kitty eats anything and everything. I don’t want to worry about him eating what may be poisonous to him. I do have a list of what plants and flowers are poisonous but I need ideas of what CHEAP fresh flowers I can have in the house. It’s a little treat I like to have once in a while to make me feel good. Can’t have house plants as he gets into the soil and makes a mess!

Thanks for helping!!

What’s a cheap type of fresh cut flowers that you can buy from a grocery store that is not poisonous to cats?
Carnations, daisies, tulips, roses.

Get your cat a small potted plant of cat grass.

I have one, and my cat leaves my plants and flowers alone.

I have three, and they all love the pot that has their grass in it.

I think it is from Chia, but I am not sure.

You can also get them a catnip bush. They will definitely enjoy that.
Reply:I believe that carnations are edible, so they are probably your safest bet. just don't get the ones that have been dyed, [you know, like the green ones on St. Patrick's day.] Also, they are usually cheaper than the other cut flowers. try doing a Google search for 'edible flowers'

good luck.
Reply:Roses are actually OK. Pansies aren't normally sold by florists but if you want to grow them, they are edible. Lavender is OK.
Reply:lavender is rwally nice and its ok.cats dont like roses either.

How did it start that couples buy eachother flowers?

Flowers are....are...... Beautiful.

How did it start that couples buy eachother flowers?
By a starving florist that told a good story...

Who's parents pay for the center pieces since the guys parents buy flowers?

my mother inlaw to be said there paying for the flowers but since im having flowers as my center pieces dose that mean there paying for them also?

Who's parents pay for the center pieces since the guys parents buy flowers?
Yes, i'd imagine that you would get an overall 'package' price from your florist that includes the table centre pieces, and your mother-in-law would pay that.

Lucky you! :o)
Reply:You need to discuss this with them, since they might be thinking about just the bouquets and ceremony decorations. If you have floral centerpieces, it would be part of the whole floral package.
Reply:you need to sit and sort this out with mil....she may just mean ceramony flowers
Reply:who ever pays for the flowers..pays for ALL flowers included in the wedding...
Reply:It is traditonal for the brides parents to pay for everything except the rehersal dinner and the honeymoon. The rehersal dinner is covered by the grooms parents, and the honeymoon the couple.

If your mother-in-law offered to pay for the flowers. It would be best to have her clarify what she means instead of asking her to pay of the center pieces.
Reply:"Hi MIL, I know that you said you wanted to pay for flowers - and I REALLY, REALLY appreciate it! I just wanted to see if you have an idea of what your budget is? I want to make sure that I stay within what you were planning to contribute."

Get the #, go from there - but be sure that you %26amp; FI can afford to cover the cost, should something happen to MIL's cash supply.
Reply:This is something that you will need to clarify with your in-laws to see exactly what they meant. If that did not include the centrepieces, ask them if they would mind including that as well. Good luck.
Reply:Hi. Ummmm....you better check with her! Just come out and ask. Perhaps she doesn't KNOW that you are having floral centerpieces too. Don't assume she knows, just ask before it's too late. Personally, I think if she offered to pay for the "flowers" she is meaning all flowers for the ceremony, and things like the bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres. I am really thinking she DOES NOT mean the centerpieces too, but you won't know unless you ask. If she does not want to pay for the centerpieces, then please call the florist so that the two bills can be separated.
Reply:If your in-laws offered to pay for the flowers, I think that should include the floral centerpieces.
Reply:Unless you're still in the 20th century, the couple usually pays for everything themselves. For many people, centerpieces are part of the floral bill.

If the parents want to foot part or all of the bill, it needs to be set in stone who is paying for what before any contracts are signed and checks written so there is no confusion.

Where is the cheapest and best place to buy flowers? nursery. walmart, lowes or home depot?

Price, Its had to beat the big chains. Quality and selection, go pay the little extra for nursery stock.

Problems and questions, unless your interested in who they went out w/last week (as that is all they know at Wall-Mart) go ask the guy that feeds his kids' working in the trade. Ask the experts at the nursery.

Where is the cheapest and best place to buy flowers? nursery. walmart, lowes or home depot?
Wal Mart cheapest, but you need to buy them the day that the nursery truck delivers, cause they quickly look sick. Lowes is more expensive, but you have a year guarantee on the plant. (to get your money back on a dead plant, you have to have original container and receipt, plus take the dead plant back, also) A nursery is the best place for great advice and help with selections for your area. Hope this helps.
Reply:Nursery! They order plant varieties that thrive "in your area." The mega boxes just order "stuff"- some of which is NOT viable in your local soil! Nurseries have professionals to answer questions. They know their plant stuff. The mega boxes, well... Minimum wage people are probably not up to par. Buying price alone is generally a mistake. (By the way, my local nursery sells better quality plants CHEAPER than the "always the low price, always" store!)
Reply:My choice would be Walmart because they always sell for less then their other competitors.
Reply:This is a hard question Cheap and best are not the same thing.

Nursery plants are usually well cared for. The employees

can usually answer any garden related question you have. which plants will thrive in your area because of local weather conditions, soil and insect problems. what soil mix you should put down in your garden bed. etc.

Nursery prices will depend on their cost of business, where you are, what they grow themselves and what they ship in from elsewhere.

Lowes and Home depot are about even in price and quality.

they usually have at least one employee around who can answer a question or two. but no one really knowledgeable

the quality of their plants depends on who the buyer for their regional store is.

Wal-mart can be cheap but the quality of their plants can be very poor. The employees are useless. So you have to know what you are looking at when you shop there. I find their plants are often root bound and sometimes suffering root rot from over watering or in trouble from under watering. on the other hand they often have some good bargains. I bought some tomato plants on sale the other day for $1.50 these were the same as the ones Wal-mart was selling for $5.00 only they were growing sideways instead of straight having been "damaged" during shipping.
Reply:Actually, I've found the best prices at local farmer's markets. They also seem to last longer.

What kind of flowers should i buy for a girl that i have a crush on?

i want something that smells nice and is quality in appearance. i was wondering if there are various kinds of roses that can achieve this requirement.

thanks for reading!

What kind of flowers should i buy for a girl that i have a crush on?
Despite what most people think...Yellow roses mean love and friendship.

Valentines day and all that red hearts and roses stuff often confuses people into thinking red roses mean true love.

A nice bouquet of yellow roses while not only beautiful will have a hidden meaning that you can share with her or not.

Hope your research and present are appreciated.
Reply:Well, since you only have a crush on her....and you aren't romantically involved yet....I would suggest getting her a mixed bouquet of wild flowers. They are bright and airy and smell wonderful. Roses are dramatic......a mixed bouquet shows her that you kinda dig her and you're a fun spirited person. Color always makes a person feel happy ...so buy something with lots of bright flowers!

Good luck!
Reply:Flowers are a waste of money, way too expensive for something that is going to die anyway. Why don't you think of something else to give her, something that will last?
Reply:roses are lovely...u can get nice smelling roses ...best to ask a florist ..my favourite is lillies...tho...last ages and love the smell ...not all ppl do tho
Reply:yellow roses
Reply:Roses are classic
Reply:I would go for a striking combo of red and white, red and purple or a mix of all three. I really like Purple Statice, white sweet peas or tulips and red red roses. You can go to your local Farmer's market to find them too and they are much cheaper than at the florist shop. ask them to wrap them nicely and viola! a beautiful bouquet for your sweety!!! good for you for taking that extra step in romance!!!
Reply:be different, buy her gerber daisies.
Reply:Yellow roses would definitely win her over! Goodluck!

Check out my profile for ways to earn some extra money!
Reply:roses, especially red ones
Reply:do what the rest of the answerers say and get her some roses but also get her some fairly expensive chocolates.
Reply:It's not the type of flowers that count - it's what you say on the card and how much thought you put into it !
Reply:Roses are wonderful. I love the white ones myself. Having said that, i'm not the girl you've got a crush on. So, can you find out her favourite flowers and colours? Do you know any of her friends or family you could ask. I'm sure that she'd appreciate any flowers you bought her, but if you went to the extra effort of finding out her favourite flowers and colours, she'd be over the moon! Good luck!
Reply:Be original - get her a potted african violet in full bloom.

With proper care - this will last for years and always remind her of you.
Reply:I'm w/ the African Violet guy. Buy her a pretty plant! It'll last much longer and the price won't be artificially inflated like it is w/ roses (since its close to Valentine's Day).

Cut flowers %26amp; roses slowly wilt away and die. Why not get her something that is more memorable and more original? Roses on V-Day = not original. Venus Fly Trap- now that's original! ;-D
Reply:roses,CRUSH????? i haven't heard that for a while....
Reply:roses always go down well.

if they are really expensive where you are and you cant afford a bunch of them you can always get a couple of them and mix them with gypsophillia (that stuff with tiny white flowers), lillies (star gazer lillys smell wonderful) or Gerberus which are like huge daiseys and come in some really nice colours.

or if its a first date sort of thing a nice mix of seasonal flowers would be nice sometimes i think roses can be a bit boring, its nice to get something different. you could also find out what her fave flowers are and get them.

if you want roses that are a bit different there are some that are new to the market, they are orange by the stem and get to a yellow by the tips of the leaves, you are looking about £3 a rose for them but they are absoultly lovely.
Reply:The best thing would be roses because us girls love roses. but don`t get red ones that means love so get pink, yellow, white, purple, the roses that are multi colors are so beautiful
Reply:if you know what she likes, by all means get those. otherwise, you cant go wrong with roses. yellow ones always did it for me.
Reply:you cnt go wrong with roses!
Reply:i would buy roses because they are so beautiful roses are not my favorite flower but you cant just go up to her and ask "What is your favorite flower?" then there would be no point in giving her flowers so just buy her roses because all girls love roses!

What are some nice cheap flowers/plants i can buy to make a garden?

i am looking for some pretty but cheap flowers/plants to plant in front of my house. i am also going to be planting them with my 7 %26amp;8 year olds, any tips on how to make it fun with the kids. i live in north east pa, if that matters. thank you for all your suggestions.

What are some nice cheap flowers/plants i can buy to make a garden?
Seeds. Seeds are very cheap, go to your garden center and buy the seeds for planting now. Plant them with your children, get your children to write pointers which will be placed in the earth where the seeds are. OR, buy potted plants already sprouting and plant in your garden. Give your children a note book and they can note down how big/long/colourful...it has grown over the days/months. Gardening is such fun, once they get the hang of it they will love it.......good luck
Reply:i like carnations they are cheap they spread to cover a not bad sized patch the are very bright and colorful they also come up every year.you can also buy water cress for the kids boil an egg cut the top off scoop out the egg put some soil or cotton wool in to egg sprinkle the seeds in (cost at the most 1 pound per pack)then draw a face on the egg the kids can then watch the hair grow.have fun
Reply:theres a new product out called Roll %26amp; Grow. its 1000 seeds in a fabric that you lay where you want and water, you can cut it into different fun shapes to make a variety of shapes. check rite aid, cvs and walgreen's. i think its $20.00.
Reply:Impatients or marigolds or petunias are cheap if you buy them in a flat like 15 plants for 5.00. Then you can have you kids dig holes and put the flowers in and cover them up. Then fill a pitcher and water. Then kids will like knowing they are helping and that they are pretty and the chance to watch them grow.
Reply:vanda miss jokim
Reply:The cheapest way is to buy seeds and plant them.
Reply:Putin a few elephant garlic bulbs.they are pretty and have a nice flower, low maintenance hardy and good flavoring for food get some irises and a few Jerusalem's (sun chokes) a few canna lillies and you are done!
Reply:Sunflowers are easy and impressive. Be sure to get the mammoth variety. Poke a thumb-sized hole in the ground with a stick, pop the seed in and cover. I put some out a little over a month ago and they're almost two feet high. They'll grow 8-10 feet. Wildflowers are good, too. If you want something you don't have to seed yourself go down to a local nursery and look around. I'm always planting new stuff in my yard and most of the stuff you'll find will be reasonably priced. I've got a fire bush and a butterfly bush paired together on my fence row. Butterflies and hummingbirds are always welcome. :) Good luck with whatever you decided to plant.
Reply:sure thats a great idea. you can go to homedepot prob with like $50 bucks , by a couple of 24 pacs of those small type of flowers you see in front of buildings with the water fountain and the small purple, green. yellow flowers, 2 24 pacs would prob run you sumthing like $30. then get some garden soil and some cold sodas...cuz its hot out here dont knw about there!
Reply:I find that I have the best success rate with Tubers and bulbs. I'm a "low maintanence" gardener meaning I kill anything that requires more than watering. I've had a lot of success with Canna lilies.... and the best part is they were free!!! A co-worker planted some last year that the multiplied and he had to split them off. So your best bet is to find someone who have a garden and mooch off of them (most are more than willing to give) I also think that these give you more bang for your buck b/c if you DO have to buy them the multiply so fast that the next season you'll have twice as many

When you buy seeds (especially flowers) generally how long can they last unplanted before they become "duds"

It's too late for me to do any planting in my garden because everything is already blooming and new plants wouldn't ever catch up. But I've gotten ahold of new seeds.

When you buy seeds (especially flowers) generally how long can they last unplanted before they become "duds"
Keep seeds in a dark, cool place. It's based more upon proper storage than time. Seeds found in Egyptian tombs sprouted. Viable for 2,000 years. So there ya go.
Reply:I keep mine in jars with lids. Away from heat.

I also have some in envelopes in a dark cool small filing cabinet.

You can check to see if they are still good by putting a few on a wet paper towel, fold it, and then put it into a baggy. Put in a warm spot such as on top of your fridge, but not in the sun. Open it in a week to ten days to see if they have sprouted.
Reply:I package mine in paper coin envelopes and store them in an airtight box on the main floor of my house. Works for me - some of the more obscure varieties may have to be cold stored - some may not store well at all, and need to be planted right away - but MOST seeds are fine if kept relatively cool and dry.
Reply:Packaged seeds are packaged fresh yearly by the manufacturers. So to get optimum performance from the seeds they should be used within the year.

I want to buy a field guide to flowers, plants, and things that grow on the side of the road. Suggestions?.?

My wife would like a field guide or pocket guide to flowers, shrubs, fauna, plants and things that grow wild and on the side of the road. ...At least that's basically how she worded it.

I'd like to buy her one. Does anyone have any suggestions for a book like this?

I want to buy a field guide to flowers, plants, and things that grow on the side of the road. Suggestions?.?
audobon field guides are the best, but there are many. just one book for all those categories would not be very extensive
Reply:find out about the local garden club in your area. They will be glad to help and probably could use help on your community. I am sure they would love to have someone as eager as you are to help beautify the roads.

Who should buy the flowers for the wedding, the brides family or the grooms?

My nephew is getting married and he's fiances mother told his mom that she is suppose to pay for the bridal bouquet and the flowers for the wedding party and the mom's, is this true or is she just telling her that because she's spent more than she can afford?

Who should buy the flowers for the wedding, the brides family or the grooms?
This is the tradition, I just find it add that the MOB would assume that the grooms side would pitch in. This is why the bride and groom need to talk to their parents about who is contributing what at the beginning. Nothing should ever be assumed by anyone!!
Reply:it is true.. the bride pays for the wedding.. groom picks up for the rehearsal dinner and feeds out of town guests~~but it should be split down the middle..
Reply:Long ago, grooms family paid for flowers, rehearsal dinner,

and booze.

But times change.

Pay only what you can afford to pay for.
Reply:Yes, the groom is supposed to pay for the bride's bouquet, if they have agreed to doing the cost of the wedding with the traditional arrangements.

However, if they have already agreed to split the cost of the reception and other items that are "traditionally" the responsibility of the parents of the bride, then they should sit down and talk again about who is paying for what.
Reply:There is no "supposed to" about it. These days, wedding expenses are paid by whoever volunteers to pay. However, there IS a rule against using the occasion of a wedding to bully and browbeat people into taking on expenses they'd prefer to avoid.
Reply:Rules vary from culture to culture so without knowing what culture it is difficult to determine. When my Brother in law married his wife (she is Vietnamese and we are Jewish) it was very tricky working out the particulars. It has to come down to mutual agreement and not expectations. Good Luck!
Reply:It is true that the groom pays for the bride, himself, the groommen the dads but the bride pays bridesmaids and the church! I think Niki got thumbs down because if you google it you find her complte answer and she has no link to were hers came from which is againt the rules!
Reply:Niki - the "traditional" answer is not necessarily the "correct" answer. These days no one follows those rules, so it's not correct for our times. I realize you state that it's tradition, but I just don't believe in the spirit of your answer.

If the parents of the bride %26amp; groom want to pitch in, that's great, but it's not a requirement. And no one follows the "this side has to pays for this" and "that side has to pay for that". The parents pay for what they want to; everything else is up to the bride %26amp; groom.

Please don't use tradition to try to force one side to pay for something.
Reply:Etiquette for weddings

Groom and family are responsible for the rehearsal dinner.

Groom is responsible for wedding bands, tux, and buying your bouquet.

Bride and family are responsible for all the rest. However in some cases, the expense has been shared, but the grooms parents will have to offer to share that responsibility, and you don't ask, that is rude.

We recently had a relative who got married, due to the fact that he had worked with government officials, those officials were on the guest list, so needless to say, his family picked up most of the tab for the wedding, because his family had to have these political people there.

and I am pretty sure that he has to buy his mothers corsage
Reply:That may be tradition but today the bride and groom split the cost since they are financing most of the wedding themselves.
Reply:The bride and groom should pay for their own.

Order flowers and cards online! Same day delivery available. Wow!
Reply:Honestly, you're just as good if you search for a local florist and call them, tell them what you have in mind, and let them deliver. They'll often give you more flowers for the money, and it won't cost you so much to get them delivered. If you really want to use a national website, try the following:

www.Proflowers.com/E25 (good for 25% off any item)

www.fromyouflowers.com/ent (code ENT for $10 any purchase or $15 on a dozen long stem roses)

www.ftd.com/ent2008 (code 12801 is good for $15 off all flowers)

www.usaflorist.com/savings (code EN1 is good for 25% off floral or gift purchases)

www.bloomstoday.com/ent8 (code ENT8 is good for up to 50% off flowers or gifts)

If anyone who sees this wishes to use the coupon codes, feel free...they're good through 11/01/2008 and they came from the 2008 Entertainment Book.

Does anyone know where i can buy zen nature's tropical flowers brazilian exotic aromatherapy oil?

i bought this oil from diamond beauty 2 years ago. They don't carry zen nature products any longer. This is one of the best smelling oils i've ever had. I can find tropical fruits, but i REALLY want the tropical flowers. The company is based in brazil, but distributed by Swan Walk Ltd in Santa Monica CA. The phone number that was on my bottle is smudged off. Any help is appreciated.

Where is the best place to buy wholesale vases and flowers?

Hi, Where can I purchase wholesale at the best price. Does anyone know where big lots, value city, or other bargain stores buy their products? Thanks in advance.

Where is the best place to buy wholesale vases and flowers?
There's no one place. Everybody has their own buyers out shopping for deals. Start locally. Every big city has a landscaping wholesaler with Chinese or Mexican/South American products. You can also look for niche products from the American Southwest and Europe. They are higher priced, but can be more appealing, depending on your market.

Flowers: Grow your own starters, if possible. Buying flowers is never cheap, at any level. Or, find a local greenhouse looking for consignees.

I want to send flowers or jewelry to my girlfriend, but shipping is too expensive. I am in USA, she is in Lima, Peru.

How can I buy a gift or flowers on the internet (cheapest), and have it delivered in Lima?
I recomend you use the online store http://carequitagifts.com, I recently ordered gift and flower from them and they have the best price that I saw on the internet.

Another good thing is that they mailed my fiance in Peru, record of the purchase that she will use for her visa interview.

Where can I find or buy boxes for flowers?
You might find a good stationary. Where I live, we have "If its Paper" and "NC Paper Co." Both specialize in party supplies, cake decorating supplies, plates, napkins, decorations, cards, envelopes, art paper, everything. But, most important, and to your point, they have the boxes you want. They have ready to assemble boxes in just about any configuration you can imagine.

Where do u buy wholesale cut flowers?

i'm doing a fundraiser and i need wholesale carnations. where would i purchase them? i'm in chicago, but i'm sure anyone can help if u know of a national chain store. thanx!

Where do u buy wholesale cut flowers?
Call the major Hotels and ask whom they use. I'm sure they buy in bulk too
Reply:1. Local wholesale florists would be the best source but you may need a tax exempt #.

2. Ask around some local florist shops to barter carnations (or very discounted carnations) for a nice size ad in the program or signage.
Reply:Sam's Club has great prices -- closely approaching wholesale -- on cut flowers. The flowers are of high quality, too. Other big box membership stores probably have similar prices.

Another option you might try is to talk with a florist that you deal with frequently, explaining that you need lots of carnations for a fundraiser. The florist might agree to order them for you from her supplier and sell them to you at cost. Especially if you list the florist as a supporter in any promotional material about your fundraiser.

Good luck.
Reply:Most the major grocery stores have floral departments now. They sell cut flowers cheaper than the florists can buy them from the wholesale house. I used to be a professional florist and buy from the wholesalers. Now that I only do any occasional wedding or party, I go to the grocery store and buy my flowers. They are fresher and cost less. If I need something special, I ask them to order it. If I tell the floral manager a week or so in advance, she can usually get it for me.

Should I buy flowers for wedding if I already have sent a present ?

If I have already purchased a present for a friend's wedding via the wedding registry, should I also get the flowers?

I read somewhere that it's not appropriate to give flowers (especially at the church) since it may be not convenient for the bride and the groom to transport the flowers from the church.

But somehow it feels weird to come to a wedding with empty hands, even if the present was already sent to the newlyweds....

Should I buy flowers for wedding if I already have sent a present ?
In todays society, wedding eddiquete is not so black and white.

Who pays for what, the format of the wedding, the gift registry - its all changing. It is an indivual choice either for the bride and groom or the guests.

At the end of the day, it is your choice. If you would feel more comfortable to buy flowers as well, do so. If you feel like the bride and groom are not fussy in that respect, then dont worry, save the money and worry.

Try to interpret how the bride and groom feel. They have set up a registry so that suggests that they have particular things they would prefer and dont really want lots of random gifts. So they probably wont worry about not receiving flowers on the day - as you said it may be inconvenient to handle. Specially if the flowers might stain the dress.

Why dont you go for one of those cards that dangle from ribbon that you slip on the wrist of the bride? They dont have to worry about it then as it just wraps around the wrist and wont get in the way? Plus that way you can write a little note on it for keepsake.

Do what is most comfortable to you, but remember times are changing and everyone seems to take tradition vs modern very different.
Reply:No need to bring flowers if you have already sent the gift.
Reply:If you feel weird going empty handed take a card. You have already sent the gift.
Reply:It's not necessary. Flowers are ready purchased for the wedding. If you have sent a present already then it is ok to come empty handed.
Reply:just bring a card
Reply:I think you should just bring a card, maybe you can put a poem inside or something, but you've already sent a gift, so you're all set! Most people do the same, so there is no need for flowers. The couple may be so involved in getting settled into their home and figuring out what to do with all their gifts and packing that they may not have time to appreciate flowers, although they are a beautiful gesture!

Just hold your handbag in one hand and a cocktail in another... you won't be empty-handed then! :)
Reply:NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO . BUT IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT, GO AHEAD. A WEDDING CAN NEVER HAVE TO MANY FLOWERS ! MAY BE IN A BASKET , IT'S EASIER TO CARRY.
Reply:Yaoflowers.com,One of the best China online florists, is based on China mainland and have flower chain stores in most cities of china. Reply:If you feel truly out of place coming empty handed bring a really nice card. No one will know if there is a cash gift in there and you can feel like you have something to leave on the gift table.

Save the flowers for their first born child!
Reply:As the mother of the bride last month, I beg you, go to the wedding empty handed. It is the family of the bride/groom who have to load everything brought to the wedding in their vehicles and get them to the home of the new couple, who may be on their honeymoon for a week or two. You sent a gift ahead of time (bless you), and nothing else but your presence at their special day is necessary!

What type of flowers should I buy her for valentines day?

A girl I have been friends with for a long time is probably becoming more. We havent expressed anything yet, but its clear we are trying to break out of the friend zone and we have a valentines day date. I want to send her flowers that day before the date. I want them to say "i like you as more than a friend", but nothing extravagent that is gonna put too much pressure on the situation.

red roses are for love so without pressure why not give pink roses with a couple of red ones in the middle.

Is it proper to buy flowers if I know I wont see the girl on March 8th?

March 8th is the woman's day, but I wont see her that day since she works on Saturday. So do you think I should bring flowers tomorrow, and say something like "This is for March 8th..."

Is it proper to buy flowers if I know I wont see the girl on March 8th?
I don't enjoy getting gifts early. It takes the fun out of the day. And I love getting flowers at work. (Bragging rights)
Reply:By your question, I don't really understand what the occasion is, but I would send flowers to her work on March 8.

Trust me, WE LOVE GETTING FLOWERS AT WORK!
Reply:You should totally send her flowers on that day, instead of waiting for it after. Then she will be thinking about you all day long, and thinking of how sweet you are
Reply:Yes a great idea
Reply:give it to her in advance.. not all women like to parade their personal lives at work...
Reply:Well, it's never NOT proper to give flowers.

And there's a charm in having an extended holiday, birthday, or whatever (you aren't clear what THE day is).

What's "the woman's day"?

Where is a great place to buy plants and flowers online?

I live in Louisiana, super humid and prone to droughts. What types of plants would be good for this area that are some what low maintenance?

Where is a great place to buy plants and flowers online?
Hey Animal,

Wax Myrtle is an awesome plant, always green, can be a bush or a tree, big or small. Easy to grow, but not much color other than green. Crepe Myrtle is also a good drought resistant plant, but you get some nice colors when it blooms. Both are easy to care for. Crepe Myrtle, you need to keep the aphids off though.

But here are some sites to check out for Drought resistant plants. To buy a plant, simply type the name of the plant (common or botanical) and the word BUY on a Yahoo Search line.

Reply:wayside gardens and park seeds are two of my favorites and the nice thing is you can type in your zone and it will bring up plants for your area sun or shade.

Should I buy a plant that has a lot of flowers?

I've noticed that the stores in my area have started selling mums for planting. Some of them have tons of flowers but many are still just green. Which ones should I buy to plant? Are the ones that haven't flowered better because they will bloom later and thus last longer into the winter? I know nothing about gardening.

Should I buy a plant that has a lot of flowers?
Look for a plant with a good number of stems, a good root system ans with lots of forming buds. That gives the plant time to adjust when planted out and it will then grow stronger and flower for longer.

Plants with lots of flowers will go over quicker.
Reply:Depends, if I had a party soon, I'd get the flowers. If I'm patient I'd look for a plant just starting to flower but loaded with unopened buds. By now the buds should be evident on the plant. If they aren't visible, chances of flowers appearing this year drop.
Reply:No, I bought 10 Mums from Lowes.Within 2 weeks those that were all flowered withered and died. Those that had lots of buds are still going strong(6 weeks now).I also noticed the yellows died faster and the purples faded to white.
Reply:You need to have some flowers showing , for a nice look, but also need a plant that still has some buds, so they will then bloom after the other bloomed ones fade off. Half flowered/have buds is a good option.
Reply:Get the plant that has some open flowers %26amp; a lot of buds that are just starting to open.

You'll be able to enjoy them a lot longer...but you'll also have something to enjoy right now :)

Also check to make sure the plant has healthy looking foliage %26amp; doesn't have any insects hidden in its leaves or on the soil. That could do the plant in in no time.

Good luck! Hope this is helpful.
Reply:Buy green or you won't get the longevity you want. If you need them to get instant results buy with about half the flowers open and cut them off as soon as they die. Don't forget to cut the dead flowers off as they die so it will keep blooming. This is called "Dead heading", it is used for many types of flowering plants to keep them blooming.

Do a Yahoo search on the type of flower you want to plant, there is tons of info out there for you and your growing region.

Go to your local nursery, Lowe's, etc and ask questions. Just don't buy a bunch of un-needed fertilizers, most of the potted mums out now have it in the soil. Read the labels or ask.

Best place to buy plants and flowers?

which place would be cheaper for perennial plants home deop/lowes, a nursery, or an online store or somewhere else?

Best place to buy plants and flowers?
It depends... Watch the ads. Do u want 1 QT pots, 2 gallon pots, or just the little 6 packs of baby plants?? If u got a true green thumb, try growing stuff from seed packets... I don't have a green thumb, so I go with the biggest pot of plant that I like. Menards usually has good deals, but u cannot go wrong with Wal-Mart!!! They may not have the variety that u want, but their plants all come from the same wholesalers that the Nurseries get theirs from... U just gotta get there when the truck arrives, because the only difference is that once the plants are off the truck, nursery employees take better care and are more knowledgeable about the plants than low-paid Wal-Mart employees. (Not ripping on them, but if I was paid that low, I wouldn't really care either)... Oh, and at Wal-Mart, if your plant dies, u can bring it back with the receipt and get a full refund!!!! How good is that?? That is the only place I know of that will refund u if u kill your plants!!! Yeah, go with Wal-Mart!!
Reply:Bunnings Warehouse is a cheap way to buy plants and flowers. Just goto the Garden Section in your local store.
Reply:Local growers. No extra for advertising, huge overhead, shipping, and union employees.

How do I buy wholesale flowers to resale in Bend Oregon?

There is a lot of wholesale nurseries in the valley by woodburn, salem, etc. Even if you do not have a licence, if you buy in quantity they will give you a good discount. After all, they have to sell the stuff because it is time oriented products. You should have at least a 1 ton box van %26amp; you could not only haul flowers %26amp; small trees, but you can pick up a lot of vegetables from the russian farmers who live in the woodburn area. They sell their produce very cheap %26amp; I think you could do well with it at a stand in bend.

Grow real ones. The trick, I have found, is to sprinkle the plants with cayenne pepper. The animals will take a bite or two, but that's about it.

Do you usually buy your plants/flowers from places like Home Depot or a local, smaller place?

I have found that places like Home Depot or Wal-Mart usually have the best prices, and since I have owned my home (and garden, yeah!) that is where I have been getting my plants and flowers from. But sometimes, I drive by one of those smaller, farmer type stores, and think I should go in just to see what they have, but I'm usually in too much of a hurry to do it. But from what I see from their displays outside, some of their stuff really looks top quality.

Although, with a little Miracle Gro, anything can look pretty good, right? ;-)

Do you usually buy your plants/flowers from places like Home Depot or a local, smaller place?
Local nurseries tend to carry varieties of plants that do better locally. The super mega barn stores just buy whatever is cheapest. If it doedn't grow in your area, oh well.... I found this out through experience. In 40 years of gardening I never planted a tree that died. Never. Then we moved and I bought half a dozen trees from Wally World. Every one of them died! But those I got locally are still going strong. How much did I "save" by purchasing from WalMart?
Reply:I like to shop at the local mom/pop stores because they have a green house. They grow their own plants.

I also like the plants at Meijer's. There is always a good selection at a good price.

I have never bought any thing from Lowe's or Home Depot.

We purchased our two maple trees from a local wholesale nursery. We got a good deal and they planted the trees for a good price.

Happy Gardening.
Reply:Like most have said already....best to stick with Mom/Pop when it comes to purchasing your plants. The local grown plants simply hold up much better and If I'm going to shell out the funds on a plant I want it to make it! I tend to plant perennials that come back year after year and my success with the local nursery is far superior to WalMart or Lowes or Home Depot who sell forced plants. You're choice however but for me I'll stick with my local guys. Besides, they are really nice and friendly and usually I walk out with at least one free plant each season!
Reply:I would definitely go to a local nursery or garden center that specializes in plants only!! When I was taking my plant disease courses, I'd always go to those home improvement stores to find plant diseases, cause they're usually riddled with disease, insects, or wilting, or they look really bad. That is where we always went to find diseases on plants. Those places tend to be less interested in taking care of their plants because they only have to pay for the plants they sell. (Why do you think they have a warranty on their plants!)

The local garden center, Ma %26amp; Pop's are the best place to go. They are the people that know about the plants they are growing (not saying that people at Lowes don't know). Plus they may grow the plants there and do not ship them in from larger nurseries. To me, a Ma %26amp; Pop store is more reputible and they normally have more to choose from!

I have bought plants at Lowes and from the Ma %26amp; Pop places. I always get sad in the big chain stores becasue of all the wilting or dead plants I see. There's always somebody doing something to plants at the Ma %26amp; Pop places!

When you do purchase plants, no matter where you get them, it is always good practice to do a mini inspection for diseases or insects. If you see something that doesn't look right, don't buy it!
Reply:I do buy some plants at Lowe's or Home Depot, but most I buy at small Mom and Pop nurseries. The smaller places usually have better, healthier stock. They are usually buying their stock from smaller growers who spend more time caring for the plants than for mass producing plants. However, Lowe's, and probably Home Depot, have a One Year money back guarantee if you keep your receipt. So there are pluses to that too.
Reply:Home Depot/Lowe's and even Walmart as plants go on sale or off season. Home Depot has the best warranty if you keep your receipt and your plant dies within the first year they will refund or give you another. Happy Gardening
Reply:The best thing about the home depot is that your plants a guaranteed for a full year and they are brought in by well known nurseries
Reply:I usually stay away from Walmart when it comes to plants.....just found they have poor quality where we live. Lowe's is good to get them from.....however, I still LOVE going to our local nursery. We get the best quality plants from them.
Reply:we always go to wal-mart first and get the basics, like herbs and petunias and supplies. then we go to the "farmer -type" stores for more of the decorating and specialty plants.
Reply:Only Lowes and one nursery have healthy looking plants in my area. I'm with you about miracle gro. I've nursed many a dead looking stick to a beautiful plant with a little MG juice. m
Reply:I would suggest supporting the nurseries that grow plants organically and sell native plants. That's what I do. You'll get plants that will last longer and handle the weather shifts better.
Reply:Absolutely have no desire to shop at Wally Mart. I have found unusual plants at our local nurseries and the people that work there are really knowledgeable on caring for the plants. Costco offers plants at reasonable prices, so that's where I go to aside from our local nurseries. The Home Depots and Lowes have lots of plants, but their personnel sometimes fail to water the plants and I see a lot of wilting plants, what a waste!
Reply:The problem I found with plants is that they have been "forced" to grow to a certain size and maturity stage in large commercial greenhouses under ideal conditions. You buy those, plant them out in your garden, and they go into some sort of deep shock. After all, they are living things, too....

I buy my "cheap stuff" like annuals in supermarkets, because of the price, and I don't become too depressed when they don't make it, or turn out as weaklings.

But for expensive plants, like trees and perennials, I make sure they have been grown by a smaller nursery, and LOCALLY. That somewhat increases their chance of survival.

Make them yourself, just find some small flowers, like violets, or use rose petals, paint them with beaten egg white, and sprinkle them with castor sugar (fine, but not powdered) let them dry and they are ready to use.

Can I buy seeds now and then save them to start seedlings for next years flowers?

Here's the thing. I dont have alot of extra money but I like to have flowers in the spring/summer. I noticed seeds are much cheaper than packs of flowers. But I dont want to have to wait for them you grow this year. If I buy seed packs now of the flowers I want next year and then save them to start seedlings indoors around next March. Would they be to old by then?

Can I buy seeds now and then save them to start seedlings for next years flowers?
That's exactly what you should be able to do. The plants should produce seed and at the right time you should be able to collect the seed for next years crop. A good method of growing seed plants is to mark the individual plants you want to produce seed for you. Put a colored twist tie around the stalks of the plants that you will allow to flower and go to seed. Do not dead head these plants as you would the remainder of the crop. Harvest the seed heads on a dry day, hanging them in an airy, dry spot under a roof until the plants are completely dry and the seeds can be shaken or beaten out of the seed heads and pods.

As far as saving seeds you purchased this year and saving them to sow next spring, you may find that method a little unproductive. Lots of annual seed is good for a limited number of years. Usually only one or two, perhaps as many as five or more depending on the seed variety. Seed germination rates tend to fall as time goes by. Perhaps the best way to preserve seed for extended periods of time is to put the seed packets in a closed plastic plastic bag and stick them in the freezer. One method of collecting seed for next years garden is to ask your friends and neighbours if they would allow you to collect seed heads from their plants. Often the plants that our neighbours and fellow gardeners grow are the ones that do well in our areas. Many flowers will seed themselves and if you collect the seed then sow it in the fall, in the spring those seeds will germinate and grow new flowers. I grow poppies, calendula, cosmos, johnny jump-ups, violets, forget-me-nots and several others that will seed themselves and grow every year with little help from me. If you have some good friends or generous neighbours perhaps they would allow you to take a root divisions from their flowering perennials, either now or in the fall. Perennials will establish themselves and produce beautiful blooms year after year with some feeding, weeding and general maintenance. I grow peonies, delphiniums, various lillies, day lillies, angelica, monarda, echinacea, lungwort, bleeding heart and various bulbs such as tulips, crocus and daffodils. All of the plants flower at various times of the season and continue to propagate new versions of themselves on a continuous basis throughout the growing period. Try trading some gardening time with your friends and neighbours for seeds and plant divisions. Not only will you end up with some fine plant specimens, you will get to know your neighbours better as well as learning more about various garden plants and various methods of gardening. Have Fun!
Reply:Not all of them. It depends on what kind of flower seeds you purchase, the quality of the seeds, and even the storage of the seeds.

Annuals are very cheap at Lowe's or HomeDepot, and they continue to bloom from April until late September, even in Pennsylvania, where I live. They increase the "curb appeal" of your home.
Reply:Each seed has a limited amount of food it slowly feeds on while dormant to still keep it alive... the length of time that seed can survive is called viability... its different plant to plant... but your best bet would be to just wait... you can order seeds you wouldn't find in stores from the 2 sites attached...

What kind of flowers to buy a dance teacher?

For Christmas I'd like to get my ballet /tap/ jazz teacher a small bouquet of flowers but I have no idea what kind! Any ideas?

((I know I have a long time to think about it, but I tend to get excited when it comes to christmas =D ))

What kind of flowers to buy a dance teacher?
Go to a flower shop and ask the florist for his/her oinion. They have many different kinds of arrangements that include coffee mugs or teddy bears or whatever. Lots of nice ideas.
Reply:Maybe buy flowers in their own dirt - like a plant that can be kept alive for ages and may even bloom next year. Cut flowers are gorgeous, but v expensive and the plant idea means that you get to see the flowers several time.

Azaleas are blooming now aren't they? Or a Christmas cactus with those long red blooms.

Keep dancing anyway, warm up and cool down too.
Reply:Something bright and fun, like Lilies or Zinnias.
Reply:Pose-ies? lol

I know, I know......that was baaaaaaaaad!!!!

Any flower would do, I would think. I would try to stay in the red and white range, though. Also, you might want to ask your florist to add a touch of glittery or sparkly sprays or ribbons. Sparkles are always dazzling to everyone.

I think I'd ask for plenty of varied greenery, too. Ask for a little bit of fern type greenery and some of the soft wispy kinds, too. It is a cheap way to make your bouquet larger.

Hope this helps.....I used to be a florist
Reply:if it is a girl get her carnations if it is a guy get him roses%26lt;3

Is it cheaper to buy flowers from the grocery story than from the florist?

Grocery stores like HEB, Walmart, etc.

Is it cheaper to buy flowers from the grocery story than from the florist?
Yes. Sometimes the quality and choices aren't as good as at a florist but they are cheaper.
Reply:The grocery store is always cheaper and always walmart. Because they have the ability to buy flowers in bulk for like there million stores they have they can sell them at cheaper prices. Flower shops are usually individually owned and marked up a lot. They are a better quality than you would get at walmart so you have to decided what you want more cheaper or better quality.
Reply:florist

there are much freasher
Reply:Absolutely a grocery store. It may not always be a variety there but with a nice ribbbon bow tying the stems together, you`ve got a winner. Most stores sell accessories for .99 cents.
Reply:Yes. It is usually much cheaper to buy flowers this way. But the key to not looking like a cheapskate is to give the person something much more valuable than flowers, your time and attention.

Deliver the flowers yourself and spend some time with this person to show them just how much they mean to you. Maybe surprise them and take them to lunch.
Reply:Usually and you can ask them to wrap the flowers in tissue paper w/a tie and they will do so for free at the grocery stores.

Don't know if you have a Krogers grocery store where you live, but they will cater to you.
Reply:NO
Reply:yes but less nice.....

Why do people buy flowers and mulch when the weather is bad and it is like raining? Is it that necessary?

The poor people in the lawn and garden store departments have to get wet and carry all that stuff. It just seems a little rude and odd to me. What do you think?

Why do people buy flowers and mulch when the weather is bad and it is like raining? Is it that necessary?
They are bored sitting at home while its raining so they go shopping. Esp for items they can use once the weather clears up.

Trust me. They dont think at all about the people who have to carry the wet stuff. The shopping public is very rude. About 40% of them . Higher than you would think.
Reply:Well, I for one do not plan my schedule around the weather. Instead, I have to plan around my job and family responsibilities. Sometimes the only opportunity I have to go to the garden center is on a Saturday morning. I can't wait until the next time the weather is perfect and the store is open. Mulch does not go bad -- you can buy it weeks in advance. Flowers will be fine given the proper lighting and water. I have had a 6-pack of pansies for the past two weeks that I have not had time to plant. I over-bought at the store and ran out of room to put the last few flowers. The will have to wait until I get paid so that I can purchase a new flower pot. They will be fine until then.
Reply:We're all so busy these days! It's hard to find time to do all our necessary chores, such as yard work. If Saturday afternoon is the only chance, then that's when it's gotta be done - rain or shine. I'm sure those customers aren't crazy about working in the rain, either. But you can't expect people to put their lives on hold just so the whiney kid at the garden shop doesn't get his hair wet. He's getting paid to do a job... and if that means working in the rain sometimes, well, that's life! We all do what we gotta do.
Reply:Perhaps they want to brighten up your day. Flowers are so beautiful and when you receive them you feel special. Anyways when it is raining it feels like a wet useless day . But if you did receive flowers on that day you would feel special and appreciated
Reply:maybe the people dont know it is going to rain when they came in or maybe they needed the stuff anyway and decided to get it then since they were already at the store.
Reply:It may be the only opportunity they have. I carry my own stuff, anyway.
Reply:I'm jealous that you are in a place where it's rainy right now.
