Where is the best place to buy wholesale wedding flowers for a do it yourselfer?
I don't know if you have a Michael's (arts and crafts store) but if you do they are always running specials on silk flowers and have 50% off coupons in their adds that can save you a lot of money.
Reply:The Williamsburg Pottery, which is actually nearer the town of Toano, Virginia has ridiculously cheap cheap cheap prices on silk and dried flowers and all accessories. One example of their great prices that comes readily to mind: I bought huge silk calla lilies there, about 3 feet long with the stems..for $0.59 each! The ones at Michaels are not as nice and cost $2.49!
Reply:If you live near DallasTx you can get the nicest top quality for great prices at several places on Harry Hines. There are so many discount places there that you can spend several days looking!

What should I do? Buy flowers for a guy?

My husband hurt my feelings yesterday. He came home from work and announced that he was going to Fresno, a 50 mile drive, to drop off a paper and buy something for a friend of his which could be ordered and mailed to him. The reason this hurt me, is because he works out of town and I miss him. He is only home 2-3 days a week and the moment he walked through the door he announced he was taking off again. After I threw a fit and screamed at him, I found out that he had planned to take me with him. He wanted to take me out to eat first, then drive to Fresno.

So here's the problem. I was really mean to him. When it's his fault, he will buy me flowers or something like that. I want to make it up to him, but I think he wouldn't enjoy flowers at all. Got any better ideas?

What should I do? Buy flowers for a guy?
The flowers do have meaning to you both. Hoping that he gets the massage, I recommend the flowers.
Reply:A suggestion: Apologize, then treat him to something relaxing, you are probably both stressed out.
Reply:Honestly, one day or night when he comes home leave him a letter somewhere where he can find it telling him to meet you in the bedroom and be there in something really sexy and give him anything he wants that always makes things right. Also apologize when your done.

Does anyone know where to buy Flowers bitter? Or even who brews it?

Someone called WBC Brewers - appear to be allied to Bass.

Flowers is available from most UK supermarkets (at least all the ones I visit in the south!) and it is often the guest beer in real ale pubs as it is fairly easy to keep well.

Does anyone know where to buy Flowers bitter? Or even who brews it?
try looking it up on the net
Reply:Flowers original and Flowers IPA were orignally brewed in Luton, the flowers brewery was taken over by whitbread who closed it and relocated it to Cheltenham. That brewery was eventually closed and all of whitbreads breweries were sold to the belgian interbrew, they had flowers brewed at the Boddingtons brewery in Manchester, after they closed it they outsourced the brewing of their brands. Flowers is now contract brewed by Hall %26amp; Woodhouse (Badger) of Blandford in Dorset.

you can buy it in threshers and most good off licences
Reply:You could contact camra.org.uk Campaign For Real Ale. Click on to the links page where there is lots of info. Beer festivals, beer info etc.

Hope it comes up trumps for you.
Reply:GOOGLE The Oxford Bottled Beer Database it has info about Flowers on there don't know if it'll be any help!
Reply:i used to live in saffron walden and they sold it there sorry but i couldnt stand the stuff ...it must be my northern roots
Reply:The Original Flowers is no longer brewed.

Like many ales it has been relocated re branded and reduced in flavour.

However, you best bet is to ring CAMRA in St Albans and ask them their opinion.

Does anyone know where i can buy some edible dandelion flowers?

i have a uromastyx lizard and she is VERY picky and will only eat the bright yellow dandelion flower but they stopped growing here recently so i have nothing to feed her that she likes. any advice?

Does anyone know where i can buy some edible dandelion flowers?
Maybe a Whole Foods Market if you are near one.
Reply:Go to a local vegitarian/vegan store, they sell them for tea and salads.
Reply:Unless you are going to build a green house your lizard will have to learn to eat other stuff.
Reply:You gotta be a first!!!! In all my days, I have never heard of somebody wanting dandelions. I wonder if you could grow em indoors. If you could get the little puffy seeds, then put em in a big flat planter in the house. As far as the lizard being picky, I believe even starving humans will eat vienna sausages. So a little hunger strike probably wont hurt the lizzie. And who knows, maybe it will cultivate a taste for something else. Good luck.
Reply:I would get some other greens into her diet, have you tried hand feeding her? She is still eating crickets right? Dandelion flowers alone are not nutritionally adequate for a Uromastyx. make sure the basking temp is proper, 105-115 deg. depending on age, and that the light is on for no more than 12 hours a day. heat and light effect eating patterns in reptiles.
Reply:Mate my backyard is full of them, you can actually get a dandeloin syrup from the health food shop that might help your lizard, otherwise just investigate the locals gardens, I'm sure they'd be only too willing to help you, maybe your neighbours have some and would be willing to part with them, just ask, I'm sure they'd only be too happy to help!

Reply:My sister got married last spring and asked me to find her inexpensive flowers for her bridal bouquet, ceremony decor and reception decor. I found www.afloral.com. We found a beautiful white gardenia wedding garland that we were able to hang across the ceiling of the reception hall because it was so cheap. They also had bouquets for all the girls in the ceremony flowers for the pews including clips to hang the flowers, white roses which we placed in julep cups and placed around the church. We ended up spending around $500 for a ton of flowers. My aunt even thought we spent over $10,000 for our wedding decorations and offered to help with the cost. She was blown away by the fact that in total for decorations we spent less than a $1000. The wedding was great. She thanks me for finding the site every time we sit in her family room and look at the flowers displayed on her fireplace mantel.

There are several grocery stores with florists in the area of Fairview Hts. You might start there. Flowers around Valentines Day are going to be high no matter who you try, so perhaps an alternate gift idea might be in order.

I love to garden but it is so expensive to buy all those plants and flowers. Is there a way to get roots free?

Such as ground cover (english ivy, decorative grass, etc.) and starts of perinnials?

I love to garden but it is so expensive to buy all those plants and flowers. Is there a way to get roots free?
I am a landscaper and get alot of free plants for my garden. I get them from jobs where the owner wants to change their landscape. also alot of native plants can be found in the woods and on roadsides. Another thing you may also try is going to nurseries and green houses. They throw alot away and if you can bring back diseased and weak plants you could go dumpster diving. seeds from existing plants that are not hybrids will also work if you can get them started. as far as english ivy just a cutting would work. english ivy is very hardy.
Reply:Neighbors, friends, family My personal favorite is, I buy at the seasons end and get them cheap, cheap, cheap and sometimes FREE.

Just check the plants for little hairy white roots use root hormone and many plants are salvageable.

Reply:A lot of gardeners will offer starts and shoots from their plants, or seeds. And there are many that will root easily if you just place the cuttings in water.

Good luck!
Reply:Check and see if there is a garden club in your town. The members might have extra plants to share or would be willing to trade plants with you.

Also, be alert when doing your errands. I was driving home from work one morning and a lady had divided her Daylilies. She had the divisions sitting at the curb in a bucket with a sign on them, "Free". I took a handful of them and they have spread nicely in my yard.
Reply:It is so much fun to share plant starts with family, neighbors and friends. My mother had a wisteria which she shared with others including me. There were cuttings of that first plant in at least three additional yards.
Reply:How are you with your neighbors or family? All it takes is a little to get started. You can take a "shoot" or "starter" from a lilac bush or rose of sharon, just water and fertilize alot and you will have some beautiful bushes!!!

www.gardenweb.com -- great forum!

Sometimes people offer seeds if you send them a self addressed stamped envelope...
Reply:Check on or place an add on your local craigslist for plants. I have gotten many plants and pots and other garden items for free.
Reply:ROFLMAO...sorry, but here in Australia, a "root" can mean something quite different than what you're meaning...LOL...if you told people here you were looking for "free roots" - you could get as many as you wanted, I'm sure...

Seriously though, ground cover-type plants root quite easily - just pinch a bit off of a plant and put it into rooting solution and, in a few days, you'll have a plant ready to go into the ground...
Reply:Watch for ads in the paper, sometimes people will offer free plants from their yard, usually you have to dig them up yourself.
Reply:I got a bunch of different plants and bulbs by offering to help my neighbors to redo their flower beds... Sometimes if you offer to pot up plants for older people they will trade your labor for plants OR the money so that you can go buy the plants

What kind of flowers are good to buy for mother's day?

Roses, daisies, tulips, orchids - just about anything that is in season.

You can order special Mothers Day arrangements.

What kind of flowers are good to buy for mother's day?
depends what you mom likes, where she lives and if she lives where there is a garden or in an apartment.

If she has a garden I like to get something that can be planted.

If not I still like the idea of something in a pot rather than just a bouquet unless there is something she loves that only comes that way
Reply:Gerber Daisies, plants are better. They are bright color beautiful. They can be planted outside. They can be cut flowers too. They can take full sun with regular watering.Enjoy!
Reply:If she likes to plant flowers outside and have them come back year after year are snapdragons, gerber daiseys,or foxgloves. These all are beautiful and will continue to come back.
Reply:Whatever sort your mother likes.

I think something potted that is actually growing and can be planted is nicer, rather than a bunch of dead plant sex organs (flowers).
Reply:Whatever your mother likes.

If she is alergic to roses they would be a bad idea.

My mom likes daisies because they look happy.
Reply:pink carnations, perfect!

Where can I buy used planters (cheap) to start my flowers indoors next year?

Where can I buy used planters (cheap) to start my flowers indoors next year?
Check out places where they are doing landscaping for new construction or at shopping centers and places like that. When they put in the plants they have the containers left, and sometimes you can get the pots for free. Just ask and someone will probably let you have some.

The good thing about getting them this way is you know the plants were planted -- a lot of times at nurseries, the pots they sell are from plants that died, and that increases your risk of getting a disease in your garden.

You can also use yogurt containers that you poke holes in for drainage. Or cut down plastic water bottles and put holes in the bottom for drainage.
Reply:some things I use that are free:

--styrofoam egg cartons; put 1 or 2 seeds in each egg cup.

--clear plastic lidded containers that you get donuts and stuff in at the bakery.

--clear plastic dishes (with lids) that you get ice cream in at dairy queen; they're like mini greenhouses.

--used styrofoam coffee cups; wash them out and punch a few holes in the bottom

How can i personally ship flowers (that i bought locally) via the mail - that is to say, how do i package them

I want to buy flowers locally and ship them via overnight fedex. how should i do this.

How can i personally ship flowers (that i bought locally) via the mail - that is to say, how do i package them
It will take a lot of work, but if you REALLY want to (Personally, I'd pay teleflora) you'll need a box big enough to hold the flowers, lots of packing material, floral foam, a plastic container, and plastic wrap. First, cut the foam to fit just inside the plastic container and then soak the foam in water for a couple hours, turning it over occasionally. When it's good and heavy, fit it into the plastic container, arrange your flowers in the foam, and cover any gap between the flowers and edge of the container with your plastic wrap. Fill the box partway with the packing peanuts and nestle the container securely in the material. Pack more peanuts around the flowers to protect them as best you can. Make sure the recipient opens the box ASAP after it arrives and give the poor flowers some light. Good luck!
Reply:You CAN do this. I work at a large wholesale nursery and we have live shipments sent to us on a regular basis from suppliers all over the country.

Now, the types of plants we get are bare-root plugs, but that's not to say you can't ship other horticultural goods.

You need to call a few different shipping services like UPS, FedEX and USPS and get specifics, but almost anything can be shipped for a price.

Good luck!
Reply:Eek. I wouldn't do that. I would contact a floral shop in your reciever's area and get them to deliver to their address.
Reply:That's impossible. All u can do now is by those fake cloth flowers.
Reply:You can do this. Just do not do it on a thur, Fri, or Sat. Just put the flowers in a long box, preferrably insulated, but sometimes not, and make sure they will not dry out. I reccommend wrapping them in plastic. (It will only be for 16 or so hours).

Call DHL, the largest shipping company in the world(Forbes, Feb 2006). Call 1-800-call-DHL, and schedule a pickup, to be delivered the next morning. I hope this helps.
Reply:use walmart.com

I am not a big fan of the company, but they use post and petal, they ship DHL and are the best price. The flowers are great, always.

Do you buy flowers for a funeral?

one of my friends Matt died in a car crash last week and his funeral is on friday iv asked a friend for the number of the place doing the flowers but he never got back to me and i dont want to ask matts mum as shes got lots more on her mind, so now the funerals in 2 days and i dont know what to do, if i buy a bunch of flowers what ones should i get or should i just not take anything? i dont want to turn up trying to find somwhere to put the flowers? but dnt want to turn up with nothing and be insulting, i have been fortunate enough never to have had to gone to any other funerals so am unsure what to do?

Thanks

Do you buy flowers for a funeral?
I am so sorry for the loss of your friend Matt. I totally agree with BetsyB on this. She has some very good advise. I have just buried my second husband and one of the nicest things (concerning flowers) that anyone did for me was to plant a tree in his honor. Maybe you could plant a tree at his mom's house for her in Matt's honor. Just be there for each other and talk about the good times you had with your friend. It will be good for you and Matt's mom will be glad you were a good friend. Bless you, dear one.
Reply:For funerals, there is not "A florist" that does the flowers. Everyone just calls the florist they want. Sometimes there can be 3-5 different florist represented. Just call a florist in the area and don't bother anyone with the specifics.
Reply:dont worry about flowers. your presence is enough.
Reply:TELL A FLORIST THE SITUTATION THEY WILL KNOW ....FLOWERS CAN BE A BLESSING.
Reply:Everytime I've ever ordered flowers for a funeral, I just go to a florist, tell them how much I want to spend %26amp; where to take them. They will do the rest. They will let you sign a card or they will sign your name for you. It's pretty simple. If the family of the deceased has requested that donations be made to a cause in lieu of flowers, then do that. If that is what they wish, then find out what "cause", contact them (the organization) and give them whatever donation you wish %26amp; request that they let the family know that you did this in lieu of flowers.

Sorry about your friend...hang in there.
Reply:My funeral director has been instructed to put in my death notice that in lieu of flowers, please donate to my favorite animal charity.
Reply:If you have the money, you could call a florist and have them deliver some flowers, if not send a note to the family recalling some good times you shared with Matt.
Reply:When you find out where the funeral is, as the funeral home where the nearest florist is. The florist usually has arrangements already made. They can send something over immediately. A lot of people contact the funeral home to find a florist. When the florist delivers, the funeral director will find a place to put them. When my Grandfather died, the wake was for 2 days. Flowers kept coming and coming in from the local florist. It was quite nice.
Reply:I don't buy flowers because with that money for something that dies, I can make a lasting gift of a donation. Buy a sympathy card. Write a note to his parents on the white left hand side about the best things you liked doing with Matt and you together. Then write a check, or go to Western Union or a bank or Amscott or your parents and have a check for $25 written. If the obit didn't say, " Donations to Name Charity may be made in his name, or Donations to a charity of one's choice may be made in Matt's name, then tell them that you are making this donation in Matt's name to .....the Athletic/Art/Whatever Department at your school. You get the idea? Sorry for your loss. Makes better drivers of young people, doesn't it? Many of us have been through it.
Reply:I agree about your presence being enough. I never send flowers anymore. They don't last, and most people don't know what to do with all that they get. Now, I send a nice green plant---not a flowering one, because they don't last either.

Or I give money in a card. But best of all would be a letter to his mom. And you can send that even after the funeral. When my son died, the mom of one of his friends wrote me the nicest letter telling me of the times my son was at her house and what she remembered of him. And a friend of his handed me a letter he had written about the fun times they had together. I remember those things more than who gave what flowers.

I'm sorry for your loss of a friend.
Reply:Call the funeral home sometimes they want you to make a donation to a organization or church. The funeral home should know this information.
Reply:the way it seems to be done, is you find out the funeral home/church where ever funeral/family night is going to be held send flowers. they are usually all in one big room with the casket. then when they take the body to the graveyard they usually have a flower car that takes all the flowers the family bought or have been sent by other. that is how it happen every time i have been to a funeral.
Reply:If this was a good friend, then you should be focusing on your own mourning and not fussing over etiquette. There is plenty of time to express your condolences in flowers or some other format later: right now, your simple presence at the funeral will be the most healing thing for you and for his family.

If you really feel the need to provide flowers, contact a florist yourself and have them deliver the package. Do not show up at the funeral home or church with a bouquet in hand.

I think, though, that Matt's family will have recieved enough flowers. Prepare a letter to him saying your goodbyes and how much you loved him and place it in his casket (if you can); otherwise, give it to his mother or another relative to be buried with him or to be read by his parents at a later date. This will be a gift to him, to his family, and to yourself.
Reply:Of course, it's a very caring gesture to bring flowers as it represents symbolically, the vibrant life of the deceased and it comforts the family to see visible signs of sympathy. You would place your flowers near the casket or around the alter of the church. Even a simple wildflower bouquet in a plain vase is acceptable. It depends on what you can afford, but anything is better than nothing!
Reply:You have a few options.

1. Don't send anything. Just show up. Matt's mum will be very happy to see you.

2. Send flowers to the funeral home with a note. You can do this through a florist. You don't need to bring them with you. In fact, it is probably better that the florist deliver them. The funeral director knows what to do with the flowers once they arrive.

3. You can send a card to Matt's mum with a check for a sum you think is appropriate. She can use the check for whatever she wants. I did this many years ago when an uncle passed away. My aunt used the money to put it towards his headstone.

4. You can send a check with a sum you can afford to one of many charities in Matt's name. The charity will ask you for Matt's mum's address. She will receive notification that you donated money in Matt's name.

I hope these suggestions help you.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Reply:♥ ♥ sorry about your friend... you can just call any florist they will help you decide what to send and they will send it to the mortuary for you... so dont worry... remember too that they will probably get flowers so maybe instead go to a nursery or store and buy a nice small house plant and include a gift of money in a nice card... there are alot of expenses in a funeral and most people are not prepared for that...♥ ♥

Hi. Since I don't know where in Toronto you are, here's the web site for Toronto.com

It lists florists all over the city (456 actually). Check and see if there is one close to you. Good luck finding the flowers and good luck on your date.

What is the cheapest and pretties flowers you can buy to fill a pretty big garden?

Cosmos and bachelor buttons grown from seed - a packet of each will cost about a dollar and you can save the seeds each year and never have to buy again.

I second the marigold vote. They are easy to grow...even from seed. Just follow the instructions on the back of the packet and they come up and grow quickly and look great.

Reply:if i had your mailing address i could send you plenty of seeds..i collect all the seeds i can get my hands on every year for some unknown reason

also all the seeds i have, these annuals reseed themselves and i am moving towards perennials...lol..i just gave away a bunch of seedlings and seeds and still have tons left
Reply:I just got a bunch of geraniums and they were pretty inexpensive. .89/plant. Also, impatience and vincas are pretty inexpensive. You could also get seeds. That's really cheap! Look at the package. Many don't take long to grow. Some take a year (my daisies and dalea's that I planted last spring are blooming now).
Reply:seeds are the way to get the cheapest flowers but they take much longer and not alway bloom. Buy some flowering perennial so you will most likly not have to plant next year.

What are flower food packets made up of when you buy fresh flowers?

bi carbonate of soda...........just get some baking powder

What are flower food packets made up of when you buy fresh flowers?
Mostly glucose to feed the flowers and a anti bacterial agent to stop the stems going rotten and killing the flowers quicker.
Reply:its puzzeling isnt it youd think they would put the ingriedients on the packet
Reply:They are mostly sugar and an acid to deter bacteria. University research on the subject showed that 7-Up or Sprite, mostly sugar and citric acid, works just as well as the commercial products. ( don't use diet types as they do not contain the needed sugar).
Reply:Its basically a mix of nitrates (found in soil), potassium and glucose

Is it appropriate to buy flowers for two women that you are hanging out with?

I was driving down the road the other day with a woman that I am dating and her best friend (who happens to be married). When we got to the traffic light, there was a guy on the corner selling rose boquets. As a spur of the moment thing, I decided to buy her flowers. Would it have been more appropriate to buy flowers for both women or did I do the right thing by buying flowers for the woman that I like?

Is it appropriate to buy flowers for two women that you are hanging out with?
buy flowers for the women that u are with ok.
Reply:depends on how you feel about this person,if your just friends why would you want to buy her flowers?
Reply:very hard question it depends on your girlfriends point of view because if you did buy for the other women she could have taken it has "aww he is so sweet and thought full", and it would get her alot of praise from her girlfriends in gossip. But she could have also takin it as well i guess that was nice but it would have been more special if he was only thinking of me and not my friend "that bastard" haha just kidding i think you did the right thing
Reply:Mmmm... I would say the married woman probably would have been uncomfortable if you bought her flowers and she would have had a tough time explaining it to her husband. I had a guy I ddidn't know buy me a rose at a club. I had to just throw it away before I got home because I knew my hubby would question it. But that is just my point of view. I don't know her so I don't know how she feels about it.
Reply:It depends on your woman and what kinds of flowers. If you have a confident lady, then buying "friendship" flowers such as tulips (just an example) are acceptable. If your girlfriend is one that needs reassurance, then only get her flowers. A true friend of hers shouldn't have a problem with you only getting flowers for your girlfriend, especially if the best friend is married!
Reply:the one you like is fine, the other one may have gotten the wrong idea

What is the cheapest place to buy plants or flowers for my garden, around Surrey and south west London ?

There is a very cheap Garden Centre at Woodcote Cross roads south of Wallington, west of Purley and north of Coulsdon. In the past we've bought many plants very cheaply there that have gone on to flourish well.

What is the cheapest place to buy plants or flowers for my garden, around Surrey and south west London ?
i`m not sure about down there but in gloucestershire alot of garden centres have a bargain corner where they sell off older stock to make way for new.

my whole garden is filled with older plants that should have cost a fortune but only cost 50p to £2 per plant or sometimes £1 for a tray of violas or pansies, i have just brought a cordyline for £2 from my local centre.

also ask friends, neighbours for seeds or cuttings from their gardens. hope this helped

Why do cut flowers that you buy in a store last longer than flowers that you pick outside?

because the flowers in a flower shop have been cut not pulled and the cut is on a 45 degree angle which allows them to live longer with little water when you pick a flower you do damage to the stem you should cut and cut at a 45 degree angle

Why do cut flowers that you buy in a store last longer than flowers that you pick outside?
they also use a solution in their water to help maintain them. you can get almost the same effect by adding a couple spoonfuls of plain old sugar to your vase. about 1 tbsp per 2 quarts of water. that will give them about another 5 or 6 days.

How to buy flowers?

I've never bought flowers from a florist before and I was thinking of getting a few bouquets for Mother's Day for my Grandma, my Mom, and my Aunt. How do you buy them? What's the experience like? How does the pricing go? Thanks!

How to buy flowers?
Use google or a phone book to find a florist in your area. Call them to find out prices and any other questions. Flowers can be kinda expensive (i'm not sure how much actually), but maybe you can find a way to get a pretty rose or something instead of a huge bouquet for a few of the people you are buying for. It's giving the flowers that counts, not how fancy it is.

Why do cut flowers that you buy in a store last longer than flowers that you pick outside?

Cut-flower life depends on what KIND of flower more than anything else. Stores sell flowers that are known to have a long vase-life. If you grow those same flowers - you'll find they last a long time right from your garden. Daisies can last 3 weeks in a vase. Carnations have an amazing vase-life as well.

Conversely, many wildflowers will wilt almost immediately upon being cut. It's not WHERE you get the flower, it's what flower species it is.

What flowers can I buy for mostly shady areas in my yard? Are impatients the best?
Impatiens are very good for mostly shady areas, but some others you might try as well are, fibrous Begonias, Lamium, Violets, Vinca, Heleborous, Hostas, Ajuga, Bleeding heart, Bishop's hat, Bergenia, Foxglove, Astilbe, Primrose, Lobelia, Sweet woodruff, and Azalea.

What is the cheapest way to buy real flowers for an outdoor wedding in July in Tennessee?

I mean CHEAP. Very tight budget. We can arrange them ourselves... my sister is GREAT at arranging flowers. Any ideas appreciated.

:)

What is the cheapest way to buy real flowers for an outdoor wedding in July in Tennessee?
talk with any friends or relatives that garden and ask if you can pick a few of their flowers before the big day ...

if no one around you has a green thumb, ask a florist around you if she would consider giving you a deal - usually florists charge anywheres from double to triple the cost of the flowers, so ask them if they would be willing to sell the flowers in bulk and at a little more than cost.(talking about a lot of flowers, not a little of this or a little of that) - but make sure they know they wouldn't have to do anything to the flowers, they dont have to worry about cutting or perserving the flowers; all they would have to do is get them in...that way they might be more apt to giving you the deal...

i worked for a florist, and although she would never advertise that she did this, she would if the bride would ask...
Reply:http://www.onlinewholesaleflowers.com had very nice flowers for cheap....

that or go to your local florist and tell him to pick something cheap- most florists go out daily to get great deals on flowers and can get you great deals if you arent picky on what you want.
Reply:Why don't you just grow the flowers yourself, if you start now your flowers should be blooming by then?

If I had to replan my wedding, I would also pick wild flowers to try and be conservation.

Where you are having that wedding, get the Mr groom to do some roto tiller and grow some flowers out there.

I heard of this one guy planting flowers for his outdoor wedding. Yard sale for flower pots or make wooden ones.

Get someone to teach you flower drying and making flower arrangements wouldn't that be nice.

You can make a visit to the green house.
Reply:If you have a Costco wholesale store near you AND you or someone you know is willing to prepare the arrangement the day before the wedding...then this is a very "cheap" way to go.

My wedding date was Feb. 8th - very close to Valentine's Day - ALL the florists wanted to charge me two arms and two legs because "its the busiest time of the year"....

My future husband's cousin dabbled in flower arranging - she made me bouquets, and flower items for everyone in the wedding party.

If you have a Costco - go inside and check out their fresh "bulk" flowers - they have A HUGE selection of all different colored roses and other flowers too - also, they sell in bulk on their website.

We spent $200 for all flowers and flower arrangements.

TIP - if you do them yourself - I was told to put them in the fridge overnight -BUT - you must take out all food that gives off natural gases - like fruits and veggies (i think veggies) - they will wilt the flowers.
Reply:local farmers market or flea market usually carry flowers
Reply:Sam's club.

Reply:Steal them from a park?
Reply:Try your local Walmart Supercenter. They have beautiful roses, lilys, etc... Really cheap. If you buy one store out then go to the next one. You can get a bouqet of really nice flowers for $3.88
Reply:Well if you know anybody with a huge garden you could offer to pay a minimal price to use their flowers and then invite them to the wedding as well. Try searching around online as well.
Reply:See if there is a local farmers market around or talk to one of the local florist and let them know that you just want loose flowers and alot of times they will give them to you just a little above cost.
Reply:check dumpsters at funeral homes.
Reply:Actually, I found that if you call around to the local florists they can give you what is called a GROOM'S PACKAGE. They will give you one set price for everything. I was able to get four bouquets, eight boutineers, 11 center pieces, and five coursages for like 150 bucks. Talk to them, I am pretty sure they will work something out for you. Good luck and hope this helps.
Reply:You ask everyone you know for their flowers out of their gardens. It'd be a great mixture and... cheap. Just a thought lol
Reply:pick them. that way you got FREE flowers. what could be any better?? lol

Is it acceptable to buy flowers other than roses on Valentine's Day?

Should I buy a dozen roses or an assorted boquet with a rose for Valentine's Day (for my girlfriend).

Is it acceptable to buy flowers other than roses on Valentine's Day?
Yes of course! Consider a bouquet of tulips or iris' or lilies. Or maybe various flowers in her favorite color. I personally think that roses, especially red roses are so way over done and giving something different shows your more creative side. If you want to give roses though then consider a color other than red - there are so many unique varieties out there that will leave a lasting impression. If possible, go to the florist and ask what they have in fresh other than roses and pick and choose the flowers that you want - she will be truly touched by not only your thoughtfulness but with the time and energy you put into it.
Reply:Yes, get something exotic. Roses are too popular. They get sickening, and to me they've even started to stink.
Reply:any flower is appropriate. but what you want and can afford. personally, i think roses are over rated and show a lack of imagination.
Reply:everyone buys roses, go for something different. An assorted bouquet with one rose will be nice. Or a rose for every month or year that you have been together.
Reply:Of course! If it's her favorite flower, than that's even better than roses! It shows that you're not just some drone passing out the traditional gifts!
Reply:What a nice idea to give your girlfriend flowers besides roses! I think that shows you are thinking about her, not just doing what is expected.

Personally, I like tulips and irises better than roses.

Ask your girlfriend what are her favorite flowers.
Reply:Any flowers are ALWAYS appreciated. My favourite are carnations because they last a long time.
Reply:Yes ,or even a live plant .
Reply:BIG YES, pretty though or wild
Reply:Yes, girls just love it when you think of them!

Where is a good place to buy cheap fake flowers/plants? I have space on top of my cabinets need to fill up!?

It is the space between the cabinets adn ceiling in my kitchen. I thought some fake plants might fill up the space...

Where is a good place to buy cheap fake flowers/plants? I have space on top of my cabinets need to fill up!?
Try a place that sells really good expensive permanent foliage and look for close outs or special purchases. In my experience there are many good places to buy cheap fake flowers but no cheap places to buy good fake flowers, If the flowers/plants aren't really well done they make everything around them look cheap. Where as good quality can give your cabinets the visual boost your wanting. Good Luck!
Reply:try a craft store
Reply:Walmart, Kmart, Marc's alot of the Dollar Stores have things like that too. Craft stores charge twice what these places would charge.
Reply:Check out Hobby Lobby when they have their sales, it is better to spend a little more on the silk greenery and flowers as they will wash up nice and can be reused. I only have greenery in a couple of places on my cabinets, then a display of old canning jars, teapots and other antique items that draw interest to the eye. Any jars or other items you put up will have to be set on little blocks of wood if you have the crown molding around the top of the cabinets. Hit yard sales as well and look for things that you can use as well as the greenery, check goodwill stores as well, you never know what you will find there. Good luck and have fun!
Reply:Get some real ones instead, they will improve the air quality in the room, and they'll look better. Something that doesn't like direct sunlight would be sensible.
Reply:Go to your local Joann Fabrics, they always have sales on fake flowers and greens.

What are some other good gifts to buy my wife to show her that I care other than flowers under say $25 or so?

I have been buying my wife flowers every week for about a month now. I have noticed that she is a diffrent person since I started this. It a very good $10 dollar a week "investment" lol. She say she feels loved more when she gets them. I'm afraid they are becoming "old hat" What else could I buy her with/instead of the flowers?

What are some other good gifts to buy my wife to show her that I care other than flowers under say $25 or so?
Things that she might like to use. For instance a really nice album for pics of your two favorite people "mommy %26amp; baby". Take pics and put them in the album for her. Something to make her life easier in the kitchen. Appliances. There is jewelry available for under 25 bucks at most discount stores that are not investments but can give the sweet message that you are thinking of her. Prepare meals for her. Help around the house. Let her pamper herself. Get her a gift certificate to get her nails done one afternoon. Tell her how you feel about her in a letter.
Reply:Maybe a small bottle of perfume or a box of candy...or maybe a little stuffed animal or sentimental book.
Reply:Pedicure!
Reply:Abox of candy, an inexpensive piece of jewelry, a book by an author she loves, her favorite perfume
Reply:To ME... it's not how much $$ you spend, but what you do w/ the time you have together...

Great idea to have the dinner ready when she's not expecting it, w/ a clean kitchen to boot! Afterwards-- give her time to unwind.

Bubblebath: set the scene w/ a great scented bubble bath, and candles. It's not for the both of you, it's for HER (unless, of course, she invites you to join her).

Laundry: who usually does this? Even if you assist when not expected (and don't mention you did it) that's a BIG WOW in my book! Same w/ other misc chores. Just helping when not in the norm is a huge "i love you" gesture.

Leave her little LOVE notes in places she won't expect them, attach a Hersheys Kiss. On her pillow, on the table next to her keys, next to her toothbrush, etc. The more you do for her, the more it will be reciprocated. It *MUST* be from the heart though.
Reply:A night at home....for her to do nothing and you to cater to her. Cook supper, clean, fix her a fancy bath with scented water/bubble bathe. Give her a foot rub afterwards.
Reply:Stop at a Hallmark store and start buying her little figurines or if she has a certain thing that seems to bring her some happiness ( my wife likes snowmen, now we have a village ) buy her someting small like that that you know she will enjoy and can become a display for her.
Reply:Women love things that are ment for them. It lets them know they are being thought of. Write her a poem about the week and the beautiful things you've noticed about her. I'm sure she'd like this a lot. Or, you could cook a dinner for her. Also you can set aside that day for the two of you to just cuddle. It's not hard to please a woman and I'm sure anything you do will be loved.
Reply:You could make her something.. Like you make her a collage aka scrapbook pages. of things you have done together, etc.. if you have kids you can buy kits (handprint kit, stone makers, etc) I don't beleive they cost that much to make, everything is include in the kits....

you can make her a video of all the pictures/places you have been... You can take her out to a nice dinner.... Chocolates..yummy...
Reply:Bring home dinner sometime so she doesn't have to make it.

Reply:Gift certificate for a manicure with a small note saying you want to take care of the hands that take care of you.

You don't really have to spend a lot of money or buy gifts. Try taking her to the video store, tell her she can pick out any movie.... then watch it with her.

How about a blank book (you can find them at the book stores) and you write in the first page. Write your feelings about her. She can use the rest of the book to write her own thoughts/feelings or keep track of family memories.

Make arrangements for the kids to go somewhere for the evening or the night. Get a bottle of champion and a pizza. Don't turn the tv on.

Where can I buy inexpensive plants and flowers?

I live in Florida. I have a large property and it is mostly shady due to trees.

Where can I buy inexpensive plants and flowers?
If you want inexpensive plants, eBay is the best place! I have bought many perennials and house plants there. The quality is just as good but the prices are a lot less than at the big box stores.

Most of the plant sellers on eBay have nurseries, so you are cutting out multiple middlemen.

Also, I like get many plants from friends, families and neighbors. Take a walk around your neighborhood, if you see a beautiful plant, ask the owner if they wouldn't mind sharing a piece... most people are glad to share.

Reply:local farmer's markets usually have cheap plants. My parents also buy plants at Lowe's and at farm supply stores. I'm not sure if there are any of these near you...
Reply:Walmart, Lowe's and Home Depot sell flats of 6, 12 and 24 in many varieties. Just check the tag to see if it is sun or shade loving. The prices run from around $3 to $10. A few flats of flowers, in 2 or 3 different heights, a few bags of mulch and Voila! instant flower bed. Try Sweet Allysum. It spreads well, flowers all year and is very colorful. If one starts to get leggy just pull it out and in a few days new seedlings will start to sprout. Each plant will grow about a foot wide. Happy gardening!
Reply:I get all my plants from Lowes or Home Depot. Watch for the clearance area for plants in need of a little attention

Reply:I have ordered my plants on-line and have bought them at local stores mentioned. I have had equal success with both. Some mail ordering is inexpensive. Those are the ones that ship bare root. I do not order any that is shipped in pots. The shipping is outrageous. You will find better variety if you shop catalogs on line. Local stores only purchase what is popular.
Reply:I found that home depot was the best on price and variety. I live in N Y. so it might be different in Florida.

Are web sites the cheapest way to buy flowers?

FTD and other sites add on a $11 fee. so like the 30 dollar flower arangment ends up 42 dollars. is that still the best bet when looking for flowers.

Are web sites the cheapest way to buy flowers?
Not at all. That $11 (and up) fee is just a service fee they are charging you to take the order. On top of that you must pay delivery and if they don't state that then it is coming out of the price of your flowers. Actually, your 30 dollar flower arrangement could end up more like 20 or less in flowers.

The best and cheapest way to buy flowers is to find a local florist in your area. That way the only additional cost you will pay is delivery and tax.

Best Wishes!

Ms. Orchid
