When you buy flowers you put them on a base with water. what can you put in the water so they can last longer?

first remove all leaves that will be below the top of the vase. leaves in the water decay quickly, causing the flowers to decay as well.

second a touch of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice or leach. the sugar provides 'food' and the lemon juice or bleach keeps bacteria from growing.

every couple of days change the water and trim the bottom of the stems to prolong the flowers.

hope this helps.

keep the water cold...the flowers are already dead(seperated from their roots)..Keep them away from the radiator. The heat will dry them out quicker.
Reply:they are going to die eventually, but they are still living for the moment. if you buy cut flowers, they often come with a packet designed especially to help prolong the aesthetic life of the flowers. I think you could also buy these packets or go to the local floral shop and ask about it.
Reply:I've heard just a few tablespoons of 7Up
