What annual flowers are wroth the time to buy and plant?

Since they are only going to last one season...which annuals grow the best, become more abundant, and are just in general worth the time to plant?

What annual flowers are wroth the time to buy and plant?
Petunias, marigolds, pansies (actually these are self-seeding annuals but most people pull them before the plants go to seed), zinnias, and many 'green leaf' annuals are very abundant and gorgeous. As your garden is filled with good perennials over time, you should need fewer and fewer annuals every spring ... but you should also keep a part of your garden just for the annual flowers that are so bright to satisfy your eye ... get different ones every year to change the 'impact' of the look of your garden ... but DO get annuals every year.
Reply:There are many great annuals that will flower all summer as long as you keep them watered, and dead-head them regularly.

I like impatiens, New Guinea impatiens and begonias for shade and semi-shade; salvias, african marigolds, geraniums, petunias, and zinnias for sun; nicotiana for perfume. If you are lucky some of these may reseed themselves and show up next year, too.
Reply:If you have a sunny spot.....

I would say Dahlia's (although you can dig them up and save the bulbs for fall). You can buy them by the flat, they produce tons of flowers that last a long time, grow larger, and come in just about every shade of the rainbow.

Zinnias are good too. They get bushy and produce lots of flowers....mostly in pinks and red tones.

Shade.......impatients are just about your only option.
Reply:They all are. Summer is short in Vermont. I need all the color I can get. Zinnia are great, you can pick them and have fresh flowers in the house. I can even start them from seed outside, not a lot of work but you get a lot of flowers!!
Reply:Annuals are usually grown from seed, not as mature plants. Some seed themselves and reappear from seedlings each year.

E.g; Nasturtiums and Shirley Poppies.Night scented stock and Livingstone daisies are popular annuals, well worth a try.
Reply:This depends on where you are and what thrives locally. Educate yourself on what is available at your local garden center, and on what does well in your neighborhood by walking around and looking at other peoples yards.
Reply:I love to plant impatients, they grow so good, and last a real long time, and you can get several different colors, they look so pretty in flower beds.
Reply:Self seeding ones like Nigella, Papaver, Antirrhinum, Linum, Eschscholzia and Verbena bonariensis.

The parent will die but you will have hundreds of progeny ever after!
Reply:I am not sure where you are from. I am from New England and Petunias (for full sun) and Imapatiens (for some shade) are great choices!
Reply:morning glories... plant em around a light pole
